If it's possible, the flourishing rivalry between veteran Khadevis Robinson and emerging star Nick Symmonds got even better Sunday at the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Robinson won the 800 meters, but it took a photo finish to know for sure.

On the angle provided by the ESPN2 television camera, Symmonds appeared to cross the line first, although Robinson was leaning so hard at the tape that he almost tumbled face first onto the track at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

Officially, Robinson's time was 1 minute, 46.95 seconds. Symmonds, the former Willamette University star now training with the Oregon Track Club Elite, clocked a 1:46.96.

OTC Elite coach Frank Gagliano said the officials got it right.

"Just a lean of the upper body," Gagliano said.

A day later, Symmonds said he had been hearing from friends and supporters who were convinced the wrong guy was declared the winner.

"Everyone has told me that," he said by phone from Fairfax, Va., where he is training until he leaves for the IAAF World Indoor Championships, March 7-9 in Valencia, Spain.
